Wuwei faces northeast and is a fairly long beach break with numerous peaks, both lefts and rights. The beach is sand with cobblestone, and there's lots of parking on the dirt road adjacent to the beach. The wave here is fairly inconsistent and gutless, typically better for longboards and SUPs. However, on a big southeast typhoon swell, the right (near the abandoned army barracks at the southern part of Wuwei) can provide an epic session for shortboarders. During big storm swells, the surf zone will be further out, and it's best to paddle out in the channel along the concrete blocks in front of the army barracks. Otherwise it'll be a tough paddle out!
As with most surf spots in Yilan, there's a great view of Turtle Island, and there's also a wildlife sanctuary within walking distance. Wuwei is a nice little change from the usual crowds of northern Yilan, but don't expect the wave to be the best in Yilan.
