When the northeast monsoon is too strong, with many northern surf spots blown out, the west coast can be a good alternative. Waipu North features a large beach break, with conditions often influenced by the tides. Generally, the best conditions are found during mid-tide on an incoming tide, while high tide can make the waves flat and messy.
This spot is a bit hard to find and does not have a parking lot or washing facilities. If you prefer a more convenient surf spot, nearby Waipu South offers a large parking lot, public restrooms, and outdoor facilities for rinsing off.
