Nestled in a small fishing village a short drive north of Wushi Harbor, Gengfang is one of Yilan's premier left-handed point breaks. The distinctive characteristics of this spot create a unique experience for more advanced surfers, especially during a northeast typhoon swell when the left can be truly epic. The pier effectively shields waves from N/NE winds, enhancing the surf when other nearby spots are blown out.
Though the surf area is small and features partially submerged concrete blocks in the take-off zone, this challenge makes for an experience more seasoned surfers can appreciate. But be very careful! For safety, it's best to surf here during mid- to high-tide. On the right swell, fast barreling waves can quickly drive you into the shore, a graveyard of rocks and concrete blocks! Due to these dangers, Gengfang is for more advanced surfers only.
