Wanli is a beach break suitable for beginner to intermediate surfers. Although there are some submerged rocks along the shore, it is suitable for novices when the waves are on the smaller side. On bigger swells, surfers should possess an intermediate skill level or higher.
The best time for surfing is two hours or so before high tide. Thanks to the natural barrier created by the jetty on the southern side of the break, strong winds from the east or southeast are often mitigated. Therefore, when the wave at adjacent Green Bay is blown out, Wanli can often produce surprisingly good surf.
Note that there are no surf shops in the vicinity, so be sure to bring your own board and water for rinsing off after your session.
