Songbai Harbor is located on the west coast in Taichung City. It's called Songbai (Chinese 松柏 meaning "pine tree and cypress tree") because of the lush pine and cypress forests flanking both sides of the beach. One other notable feature are the massive wind turbines surrounding Songbai.
Songbai has a very unique tide, with the height difference between low tide and high tide often being 10 feet (3 meters) or more!
As with most west coast surf spots, quality surfable waves are not the norm at Songbai. It's a beach break typically producing smaller waves good for beginners. However, Songbai can come alive on typhoons north of Taiwan tracking from the east towards China, or typhoons that make their way into the southern part of the Taiwan Strait.
There are only a few surf shops at Songbai, and parking is mainly limited to street parking.
