Qing Shui Beach in Wujie Township, Yilan, sits about a 15-minute drive north of Wuwei Harbor. Compared to other popular surf spots in Yilan, you will rarely see more than a few surfers here. It’s a wide, open beach break with black volcanic sand and almost no shelter from prevailing winds. As a result, the waves here are often blown out and inconsistent. Surfable windows do appear with lighter winds and a well-aligned swell, but they’re sporadic. That same wind exposure, however, makes Qing Shui a fairly dependable spot for wind sports, and windy days can be ideal for windsurfers and kitesurfers.
If you’re chasing more reliable waves, head south to Wuwei Harbor or drive 30 minutes north to the busier and often over-crowded breaks around Toucheng.
