Qijin is located on the west coast of Taiwan. As the west coast is not open to the vast Pacific Ocean like the east coast is, waves are typically smaller and less consistent here. Since Qijin faces southwest, the majority of swell is generated by the southwesterly monsoon during summer (May through October). The wave can get good here during typhoon season, either when a low pressure system forms in the South China Sea or when a typhoon tracks from the east towards China.
