Dulan Beach is a mile-long, wide open beach break that offers several peaks and consistently good waves. Compared to other Taitung spots, the waves here tend to be smaller, softer, and more forgiving, and with a bottom that is mostly sand, Dulan is perfect for beginners. Some caution is advised, though, as there are a number of submerged boulders near the shoreline. If you’re a beginner or new to this spot, consider paddling out with a local who has knowledge of the break.
Dulan caters well to surfers, with several surf hostels offering board rentals, surf lessons, and accommodations. For intermediate and advanced surfers, day trips to more challenging spots in Taitung are also available.
Dulan has a very chill vibe, with a vibrant artist community, live music, weekend markets, and lots of good food. It’s a perfect surf trip destination, both for local Taiwanese and international travelers.
